Title: Zillow Stone and the Unholy One

Author: Brindi Quinn

Rating: ★★★★★ 5/5 stars

*The author of this book sent me this paperback copy in exchange for an honest review, so don’t expect anything less than that. I will always give an honest review, be it a positive one or a negative one.*

Synopsis:

In Eastern City, metropolis of wind and rain, a deadly game is about to begin . . .

Beneath the boy’s thumb, my blood bubbled in reaction to the implant. Hot stinging moved through my flesh for a helping of seconds before subsiding. The boy felt it too, for when it was done, he removed his thumb and inspected my hand. Beneath my skin was a green glow, roughly the size of a coin.
It was done.
Their people were born with extreme lust for ours, and just as my grandfather had warned all those years ago, one of them had come for me.
I, Zillow Stone, had been marked by an unholy one.
While I digested the truth of it, the boy leaned over, placing his lips nearly to my ear, and whispered, “Run.”

REVIEW:

I gave the book a perfect 5 stars because:

  1. Concept- the concept is very unique and exciting to read. All the actions and everything are worth reading. The concept where there are prags and markers who are to kill each other.
  2. Characters- Zillow Stone is my favorite, she is a tough and intelligent girl. At first, i thought there would be something cheesy between Zillow and her marker (well, let’s see) but as I turn pages, I want her to be with Theo. They are the exact opposite of each other which would really make a good love team.
  3. Settings- Every place was dreamy for me. I could imagine if not all, at least most of them. They really fit the dystopian novel.
  4. Cliffhanger- Oh gosh, this is the best of all! The cliffhanger made me feel so curious and made me want to read the next. Brindi Quinn did such a great job to make readers read every part of her book. Amazing and Good Job!

Overall, i really liked this book. I recommend it to almost all readers especially those who love high action books.

To the author, thank you for making this book and sending it out to me. Again, good job and hands up for you.

Thank you for reading.

Somewhere in Between (Book Review)

Title: Somewhere in Between

Author: Katie Li

Rating: ★★★★ 4/5 stars

*The author of this book sent me this paperback copy in exchange for an honest review, so don’t expect anything less than that. I will always give an honest review, be it a positive one or a negative one.*

Synopsis:

Two friends find a portal to another dimension and use this “in-between place” to avoid the stress of their everyday lives. What they don’t realize is that every time they enter, they alter reality.

Pseudo-punk Magnolia and underachieving gamer-geek Rom are two unlikely friends who only hang out during their walks home together after school. When they find the a portal that leads to different worlds, they use the “in-between place” as an escape from their lives in high school, then later, after college.

Their visits through the portal bring them teetering along a tight-rope of fantasy and reality, where they don’t always believe what is in front of them, not even their feelings for each other.

The book is about changes—the ones that you can control, and the ones that you can’t. It’s about commitment and friendship. It’s about the stages in between where you have nothing but the unknown ahead of you.

Inspired by the work of Haruki Murakami and films like Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind, Somewhere In Between is metaphysical coming-of-age story about defining love and finding yourself.

REVIEW:

This is the hardest book to review I’ve encountered, so far.

This is a story about two friends wanting to somehow, escape each of their reality because of stress. Until they found somewhere they could find themselves, and their true feelings toward each other.

At the beginning, I don’t really know what’s coming next. I thought it’s about a typical high school love story, but as i kept on reading… I’ve found out that it’s so much more than what i thought.

I love the story, it’s very magical and it fits my imagination. I could imagine everything, from the door, and inside of it. I hope this book comes with a movie, i think it would really make a good one!

I find each chapters exciting, that’s why i keep on turning pages. I am always excited to know what the in-between place could show us, readers.

Why didn’t I give the book 5 stars?

First of all, I din’t like how the time jumps in the story without informing the reader. It is very weird and confusing. It made it hard to follow the story.

The characters do have chemistry, but i want more of them. I think the book focuses on the in-between place, instead of the characters. I need more explanation about how and why the characters turned out to this and that.

I’m concerned to other readers who would ask questions like “NO, WHAT? WHY? WHAT HAPPENED? I DON’T UNDERSTAND THAT PART! HEY, WHEN DID THAT HAPPENED? WAIT, WHAT?!” as they read the book. I don’t recommend this book to readers who are certain they would ask something like that.

I understand the story (perks of being a writer, too) but some parts are just too hard to follow. Example, the ending part doesn’t get to me well. It doesn’t strike me the way I want it to. I feel like there are some parts missing. Maybe because of the past to present to future part of time.

Overall, I rate this book 4 stars. Despite of the negative things, I think there are still a lot of positive things about this book that could outshine the negative ones.

Thank you for reading!

Boy Band (REVIEW)

Title: Boy Band

Author: Jacqueline  E. Smith

Rating: ★★★★★ 5/5 stars

*The author of this book sent me this paperback copy in exchange for an honest review, so don’t expect anything less than that. I will always give an honest review, be it a positive one or a negative one.*

Synopsis:

Sam Morneau is Melissa Parker’s best friend. He’s also a member of The Kind of September, basically the hottest boy band on the planet.

After two and a half years, Mel is all too familiar with the day-to-day occurrences that come with being a member of the band’s inner circle, including hectic schedules, passionate fans, and gossip-mongering celebrity girlfriends.

Now, with the release of the group’s third album just weeks away, their lives have never been crazier and Mel is doing everything she can to keep up, all the while trying to cope with the ridiculous rumors that follow the band everywhere they go and pretending that she isn’t harboring a secret and hopeless crush on Sam.

It’s weird enough being in love with your best friend. It’s even weirder when the rest of the world is in love with him, too.

REVIEW:

I had so much fun reading this book. This is the kind of book i usually enjoy. A book with such a cute and adorable characters. All i could say about this book is that it’s truly cute. I’m so glad i read it during vacation, it erases my boredom.

Honestly, i don’t have a thing when it comes to boy bands. But “The Kind of September” changed the way i think about boy bands. They are very cute and adorable. I love all of them, from the stars to the inner circles of the band, they are all so much fun to read.

This book surprised me, i never thought of liking this book so much as I liked it now. The typical love story of bestfriends made this book seems shining. The situations, the conversations, all are very understandable. I mean, there are books i just can’t get over with, not because they are so good but because there are parts i couldn’t understand.

“It’s weird enough being in love with your best friend. It’s even weirder when the rest of the world is in love with him, too.”- Jacqueline Smith

Okay, been there, done that. I used to have a crush on my bestfriend and i feel sorry for Melissa. I understand what she’s feeling, the anxiety, the brokenness, i could feel right through her. At the same time, i felt very happy when she and Sam just kissed. I felt so happy it made me want to celebrate!

Reading this book would make you wish having a Sam Morneau  in your life, or a Melissa Parker. They are both such an amazing characters! Not just that, this would make you wish no person like Tara Meeks will enter your life. Only readers would understand.

Just a fun trivia, i finished the book without even having a bookmark. Does it make sense? Yes, because it just proves that this book would make you get hooked up reading, you won’t be needing any bookmark at all!

Again, this book is perfect and amazing. You would want to read some more of the author’s works. Ms. Jacqueline Smith is truly amazing, she must be thankful of having such talent to capture the hearts of every readers through her words. Because really, she captured mine. And i’m sure your hearts would feel the same way, too.

Thank you for reading!

A Mess of Reason (REVIEW)

Author: A. Wilding Wells

Rating: ★ 1/5

Synopsis: Scout Steele is the country music star People magazine just voted ‘sexiest bachelor’. More than that, he’s my best friend forever, my bff. OK, not quite my lingo – I’m almost thirty. We’ve shared everything, and then some. Even crossed the line a few times, but not too far. Well, mostly…. He’ll go to the end of the world to make me happy; he knows me inside and out. Except, that is, my most intimate and darkest defect; this he must never know. It would ruin us, and ‘us’ is the only thing that matters. So I’m marrying someone who doesn’t care about the truth or, frankly, even me.” “She’s twisted and sexy as all get out. Brilliant and beautiful, Tess Harlow is my best friend and my forbidden fruit – the woman I’ve always known and loved the best but can never have. Between my tours (and sexy groupies) and her man-juggling, we’ve never found “our time.” I love her to pieces but she’s about to marry the bane of my existence, rocker Creed Luce. He’s a walking cliche and he treats my Tess like hell – why she stays with him I still haven’t figured out. I am always there for her…but not this time. Tess deserves better, way better, my better. The door is half-open and I have my ways. Her best friend is about to become her best lover.

REVIEW:

From chapter 1, until the last chapter I was very lazy reading this book, i don’t know why… Maybe because of the sexual words that I can’t even understand. I have read books with contents like that, but this book is different! Imagine a book with lines very sexy and awkward, i mean all of the lines are! It’s depressing, and i feel like i can’t continue this anymore. The first time I saw this book, i thought this would be good for me. But it isn’t, it made me feel bad for reading the book. I expected too much, maybe because of the cover (oops, sorry).

CHARACTERS

Tess– Oh come on! She’s very irritating. If she would ever come to life, i don’t want too see her, ever! She’s a cry baby, crying over things she did herself, crying over small things. And, sorry to say this but she’s very stupid. She wants to be with Scout but then she’s getting married. Isn’t that stupid? She’s always saying that she wants to be with her bestfriend, but that’s what they’re doing right now. They act like their couples, and when something’s about to happen between them, she’ll start to cry and resist as if she doesn’t want something like that.

Scout- I hate him. Really. Aside from his name (He has the same name with a character from To Kill A Mockingbirdthat i respect so much), i hate him for being such an opportunist, taking advantage of his best friend’s weak character just for him to do whatever he wants from her. He’s the type of guy you would never want to date, the type of guy you would want to kill (am i too harsh? sorry).

They are the best example for the term ‘(Best)Friends with Benefits’. And it made me hate them more!! Ugh, i’m done with this.

PLOT

Honestly, i really like the plot. At first, I thought it would turn out nice because of the plot which is about bestfriends with feelings toward each other, have no courage to let their feelings touch each other’s hearts. It was a good plot. I like it, really, but you know what i didn’t like? The execution. If the author (A. Wilding Wells) just executed the story better, i’d probably rate it 5/5.

Thanks for reading.

Note: To the readers, this review is only an opinion of mine, don’t be hesitant to read the book just because of my low rating. Try to read it and let me know what you think. To the author, i respect you so much, and i’m so sorry for giving a low rating, but as promised, I gave an honest review. Thank you for giving me the chance to review your book.

Better than Yesterday (REVIEW)

better

Author: Robyn Schneider

Rating: ★★★★ 4/5

SynopsisAt the elite Hilliard Preparatory School, the competition is fierce, the gossip is worse, and Blake Dorsey has just arrived back on campus after an unexplained two-year absence.

Skylar Banks has a hunch Blake’s in trouble. Skylar’s the most likely candidate for valedictorian, but she’s no stranger to tricky situations herself. She’s got a reputation for taking her relationships straight from JV to varsity, and that rep is about to catch up with her.

Charley Morton doesn’t have time for Blake’s problems—not if he plans to get into Harvard like his parents expect, or to win over his dream girl (a.k.a. Skylar). But then Blake takes off for New York City, and Charley, Skylar, and her roommate, Marissa, have no choice but to risk their perfect transcripts to find him. It’s a journey that will change the way they see each other— and themselves—forever.

REVIEW:

I never heard of this book before, and I never though of reading this book until a friend let me borrowed this for a summer-read. It is really good for a summer read because of its story.

I don’t think this book is about finding Blake, but it’s more of finding themselves. Like how Charley decided to take music (which is his true passion) rather than pre-med (what his parents want him to take.)

It could have been 5/5 if Robyn Schneider just found a way to make the searching (for Blake) more challenging. I just don’t like the way it goes- the three searched for Blake all over and they just found him on a party and then BOOM !! They went back to the Hilliard, with Blake (too easily). I was like ‘That’s it?’ I don’t know, maybe i’m just looking for more. Nevertheless, it’s really nice and entertaining. The narration is very clear. It came to me just in time, when i needed a light-read after reading so much classical works. Better than Yesterday is a light read, yet comes with a deep message.

When i was reading the synopsis, I was like ‘Wait what? Is it a love triangle?’ But as i turn pages, i realized that it’s more than that. I can’t even choose who to ship until now that I already finished the story. Should I go with Skylar x Charley or Skylar x Blake (or maybe Skylar x Kyle?) But i don’t really care, cause’ i like it either way. But let me help you decide which to ship.

tumblr_inline_n72pm1l8ar1rqn00w.gif

SKYLAR x CHARLEY

Oh. so. cheeeesy!! Like what else could we ask for? They are the true example of the so-called relationship goals. They are both smart and both have a thing when it comes to debate. Can you imagine? A couple arguing on a debate, a couple fighting over the spot of valedictorian. But don’t get me (them) wrong, they don’t think of it as a competition, or whatsoever. At the end, they were labeled the ‘Top Ranked Boy and Girl Students.’ Satisfying, right?

SKYLAR x BLAKE

Maybe some of you were thinking ‘Why does she even consider Blake?’ Well, why not? She likes Skylar, a lot. It was really nice of him to just walk away when he saw his friend being with his dream girl (Blake mistakenly thought Charley and Skylar are dating.) He could punch Charley on the face, call Skylar a slut, but NOOO!! He didn’t, because he is a true friend. As long as the two are happy, he’s fine with that. Isn’t that sweet?

tumblr_monf14nna51s0tbmjo1_500.jpg

ENDING

If i were to rate the ending, i’d give it a perfect 5 stars. I like it how Robyn Schneider put an end in the story. Especially how Charley and Skylar delivered their speeches through debate. And the CLASS PICTURE!! The coolest and best part ever. I could even imagine it. Charley and Skylar surrounded by their friends. And the sweetest part, Charley’s kissing Skylar, and Skylar wearing a shocked and embarrassed face.

To sum it all, ‘Better Than Yesterday’ is better than I expected. I recommend it to teenagers (like me), any age, whatever. It would make you feel sad that you don’t have a friend like Marissa, an admirer like Blake, a boyfriend like Charley/ a girlfriend like Skylar. Except for those who are lucky enough to have it all. That’s it!

Thank you for reading.
